Mercedes-Benz has been around the automotive world since 1926, that’s almost 100 years ago.
Now, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, a line of executive vehicles made by the German automaker, has been produced since 1953, and I don’t know about you, but I only know a few examples of endurance and solid production such as this.
It should be noted that, historically speaking, the E-Class is MB’s best-selling model, with more than 13 million units sold by 2015, according to the brand’s official website.
And, for those unfamiliar with this range of executive cars, this is a line of vehicles with various engine and body configurations, available either with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, depending on the vehicle.
Now, for the 2019 model-year, the E-Class is available as a five-passenger sedan, a seven-passenger wagon, and a four passenger coupe and convertible, divided in four trims: E 300, E 450, AMG E 53 and AMG E 63 S.
The E 450 is available as a sedan, a wagon, a coupe and convertible, and for this review, I had the chance to be behind the wheel of the gorgeous, well designed, jaw-dropping coupe.
Hear it roar
Just for comparison reasons, let me tell you that the E 300 has a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, that provides 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.
In contrast, if you step up to the beauty that is the E 450, you will get a turbocharged 3.0 liter V6 Engine, that boasts out 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
This trim has a nine speed automatic transmission, and is equipped with all-wheel drive (4matic, in MB’s lingo).
According to EPA estimates, this powertrain delivers 19 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon in the highway (and a combined city/highway fuel economy of 22 mpg).
All around, this is a very capable, trustworthy engine (I wouldn’t expect less from an MB car), but more, much more on that a few lines ahead.
It should be noted and recognized that the last two trims get more powerful engines, but these -hopefully- will be subject for future reviews, and also, I find the E 450’s power train just with the right balance of power and fuel economy, so, that is it.
The E 450 is packed with accessories. Right out the gate, it has all the equipment featured in the E 300 trim, such as LED headlights, auto-dimming mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, driver seat memory functions, simulated leather upholstery, a 12.3 inch central display, a navigation system, a rearview camera, forward collision warning with automatic emergency breaking, MB’s COMAND infotainment system and more.
Now, besides the former, the E 450 coupe also gets a panoramic sunroof and leather upholstery.
It has to be noted that this trim and the E 300 are available in Sport and Luxury versions and share a couple of optional packages, so, be sure to ask about these extra optional equipment at your favorite MB dealership.
The 2019 Mercedes Benz E450 is a ‘gentlecar’ in the streets and a beast in the highway.
Its gorgeous figure handles with grace and elegance around city streets, with flawless poise and confidence, backed by its suave transmission and responsive engine.
And talking about the engine, as I said before, in the highway, it’s just a beast. A gorgeous, no nonsense, wild, beautiful beast.
This is a car that just has no problems at all when it comes to take on curves, passing, and all around accelerating. This is a passionate, rev’d up, heart stopping beauty that just won’t let down anyone, from those that just want a fast car to those that have the palate to taste and recognize a well built, well thought German car.
With tons of equipment, gorgeous design and a powerful, passionate and trustworthy engine, the 2019 Mercedes Benz E450 is all you can ask and much more from a luxury coupe.
