The power begins to get serious with the next model, the Cooper S, that gets a very capable 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, that achieves 189 horse power and 207 lb-ft of torque.
It includes an eight-speed automatic transmission, and in the accesories front, we get 18-inch wheels, front sport seats and additional stability control choices.
It should be noted that the Cooper and Cooper S models can be equipped with all-wheel drive, and, in the first case, you’ll get an eight-speed automatic transmission; and in the second case, the car has a six-speed manual transmision and an optional eight-speed automatic transmission.
Now both, the John Cooper Works and the Cooper S E get all-wheel drive from the get go, but they differentiate deeply under the hood.
The John Cooper Works model has another version, a ‘punchier’ version, of the turbocharged four-cylinder engine, since this one offers 228 of pure horse power and a torque of 258 lb-ft.
In this case, manual transmission is standard and the eight-speed automatic transmission is optional.

Last, but not least, we have the Cooper S E, the ‘eccentric’, hybrid one of the bunch.
Under the hood, at the front of the car, we find the cute little turbocharged three-cylinder engine, sending power to the front wheels, with a six-speed automatic gear box.
But in the back, driving the back tires, there is an electric motor; and the combined power, according to the brand, is estimated at 221 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. This beauty hast pretty much the same features of the Cooper S.
It should be noted that the Signature and Iconic trims, you’ll find accessories such as heated front seats, forward collision warning, leather upholstery, a navigation system and more… so don’t worry. You’ll get a 2019 Mini Countryman that adapts to your needs, trust me.
There is no way around it: If you want ‘power’ -not as in a ‘powerful’ per se way, but just ‘power’- you’ll have to go with one of the four cylinder engines. The three-cylinder engine (the regular one and the one paired with the electric engine) will give you very good efficiency numbers, but the ride won’t be as fun and agile with it.
This is a spacious SUV, very comfortable, with a very quiet cabin that you’ll love in long rides.
